Eek!: A Noisy Journey from A to Z
Written by Julie Larios
Illustrated by Julie Paschkis

“When Kirkus called Eek! ‘an absolute zoo of an ABC book—in the best possible way,’ I couldn’t help but laugh. They’d nailed it. Fans of other Peachtree titles like One Fox will fall in love with Eek!, and not just for its adorable poop piles that would put the poop emoji to shame.

Author Julie Larios utilizes onomatopoeia for every letter of the alphabet in a parade of lively sounds, making it a brilliant tool for connecting those sounds to letters. On top of that, Julie Paschkis’ vibrant illustrations tell their own story about a little mouse trying to do something kind for a friend, strengthening those visual literacy skills. So while Kirkus called this book a zoo and gave it a shiny star, I think they could’ve gone one step further: Eek! is an absolute parade through the zoo of ABCs—in the best possible way. ” —Darby Guinn, Peachtree Conference Coordinator and Sales/Marketing Assistant

Gnu and Shrew
Written by Danny Schnitzlein
Illustrated by Anca Sandu

“I was immediately drawn to Sandu’s quirky art style when Gnu and Shrew was still just a couple of sketches, but it was the story that made me fall in love with this book. The idea of two friends being polar opposites yet having the same big dream resonated with me. As a kid, my own friends and I dreamed of crazy, big plans despite our differences. In Schnitzlein’s modern fable, Gnu and Shrew learn that both dreamers and doers can travel the world with a bit of ingenuity and teamwork. Thus, this book will forever be a classic I’m excited to share with my own kids.” —Kelsey Provow, Peachtree Subsidiary Rights & Sales Assistant

Life in a Frozen World: Wildlife of Antarctica
Written by Mary Batten
Illustrated by Thomas Gonzalez

“I’m not a traditional naturalist. But I do have a love for nature shows like Blue Planet. I can watch the episodes over and over again without ever getting bored. Life in a Frozen World reminds me of nature shows like Blue Planet, and when I read it, I can almost hear Sir David Attenborough’s voice narrating. The art by Tom Gonzalez transplants you to the antarctic. I hope both kids and adults, whether they are nature-philes or not, would want to turn the pages of this book over and over again to get a glimpse at a world that we may never visit. There’s a lot of information and detail in this book that should inspire young environmentalists.” —Farah Gehy, Peachtree Subsidiary Rights Director and Special Sales Manager

Madeline Finn and the Therapy Dog
Written and illustrated by Lisa Papp

“I love all the Madeline Finn books for so many reasons. Madeline is a sweet, lovable, authentic girl whose challenges make her genuine and sympathetic. I love the way she talks to herself and her dog Star. I also love what appears to be a single mom raising a little girl on her own who is very present and surrounds herself with strong adult role models. Even though reading is a challenge for Madeline, books play an important part in her life. Mrs. Dimple, the librarian, introduces her to the love and compassion of animals which in turn helps her to read. In this third book Madeline is training her puppy to be a therapy dog and after Star passes the test she begins her job in a elderly care facility. Star makes friends with everyone but Mr. Humphrey. Madeline is sad that Star can’t make him happy and decides that next time they will just sit and read him a book. The book shows us that ‘showing up’ and being kind really do make a difference. The story is full of love and compassion and holds strong messages for both adults and children. This book exemplifies how important it is to treat one another with respect, dignity and patience.” Ruth Hook, RAH Sales & Marketing

William Still and His Freedom Stories
Written and illustrated by Don Tate

“A new book by Don Tate is always exciting for me. I love his commitment to bringing to the fore historical figures who are not universally well known. William Still is someone I had an inkling of, maybe because of hearing about him through the work of Skip Gates, but the depth of his commitment to helping slaves escape was new to me.

This picture book hits on so many levels I hardly know where to begin. The records William Still kept are relevant today because of their use as a tool in ancestry tracing. His work on the Underground Railroad is a powerful story that needs to be remembered. Brought to life through Don Tate’s powerful prose and turn of phrase (‘…barely earning the smell of money.’), this is a must-read for anyone interested in American history, the history of enslavement, the power of one person to create change, how a chance encounter can change the direction of a life, and so much more.

Unfortunately, lines like ‘Free was not always fair’ bring the book into the immediacy of today in ways that deeply sadden me. I encourage everyone to read this book and let it sink into your soul. ‘Because that’s what stories can do. Protest injustice. Soothe. Teach. Inspire. Connect. Stories save lives.'” —Lynn Hildebrandt, Peachtree Sales Manager
