In their latest children’s book, Martina the Beautiful Cockroach, author Carmen Agra Deedy and illustrator Michael Austin serve up a deliciously inventive Cuban adaptation of the beloved folktale, complete with a dash of cafe cubano. In bringing the little green cockroach to life, the book has been recognized as a 2008 Pura Belpre honor recipient.

Senior-aged author whose novels Out to Pasture and Older But Wilder showed life in a lively retirement home, Effie Leland Wilder passed away on July 19, 2007 at the age of 97.
